Well, a week later and here we are with a second post. Personally I'm still getting used to this but I'm hoping it turns into a regular thing, hopefully with posts being made a bit more freqently.
Okay then I'd better get cracking then.
Yesterday, I managed to get a 42" HD Digital ready LCD TV. Now, before I got this I had a 19" TV that was about 4-5 years old, and I always thought that it would be enough for games and things I watch, which other than various DVD's and episodes of Top Gear amittedly isn't very much. I have been proved very wrong.
Now I don't know if its because my PS3 is hooked up via HDMI and is running games in HD now or if its just the sheer size of the telly, but I'm finding that the games just look so much better somehow. I mean, it could be a sort of placebo effect, but I played Resistance Fall of Man, which is already an admittedly good looking game, and it just looked fantastic. I also did the same with MGS4 and MGS4 looked fantastic on my old TV but it really shines on my new one.
Now before I continue, I'm going to say this next bit has me talking about Dynasty Warriors 6 (Yes, I'm a DW fan. It's the only game I know where you can demolish an entire army in 5 minutes using just one man) so if you can't stick any talk of the DW series, you might want to skip this bit until I talk about the sound. I've played DW6 on my old telly, and though that some of the animation, although decent, and a definate improvement from earlier games, seemed a little sluggish. On the new one, the animation is much more fluid, probably due to a better refresh rate or something, which has me playing it again and frankly enjoying it just as much if not more so.
Of course, theres also the sound, and that is excellent, much better than my old one. Explosions, gunshots and even just speech seem to sound so much better and clearer.
About the only thing that's anywhere near the problem is both the sheer size of the thing, which is both a blessing and a curse, and how damn difficult it can be to get behind the damned thing to connect the cables.
So yeah a positive post overall about this, but thats not to say I don't have something to rant about, although admittedly a small one, so here goes nothing.
When you see adverts on the telly, there are a lot of things that crop up, be they constipation curing table at breakfast (seriously, why the hell do they put these adverts on at THAT time?!) the latest offers from a supermarket or even the never ending stream of DFS adverts (about the only thing good about that is the fact that Linda Barker isn't on the telly. That and the fact it keeps Heather Mills of the damned thing whining about why everyone hates her) but out of all the daft things to do a telly ad for, why in hell do they ever try to advertise HD televisions? It's even better when on some of the DVD's they try to advertise that HD is the way forward. If you have a normal TV, how in the hell can you tell the difference? It really makes you wonder about what kind of chimps they have in marketing.
Well thats about it for this time. There are other things I could rant about right now like how about someone was so astronomically stupid as to climb up an electric pylon, get himself shocked while hanging from it, and his friend rather than going for help, decided to climb up after him and got himself shocked and that they're both in hospital as a result. Frankly though, I think its pretty self explanitory and not really worth the time. Not to mention that I'm in too good a mood to do so, so if you'll excuse me I have alien scum to blast on Resistance Fall of Man.
