Well, a week later and here we are with a second post. Personally I'm still getting used to this but I'm hoping it turns into a regular thing, hopefully with posts being made a bit more freqently.
Okay then I'd better get cracking then.
Yesterday, I managed to get a 42" HD Digital ready LCD TV. Now, before I got this I had a 19" TV that was about 4-5 years old, and I always thought that it would be enough for games and things I watch, which other than various DVD's and episodes of Top Gear amittedly isn't very much. I have been proved very wrong.
Now I don't know if its because my PS3 is hooked up via HDMI and is running games in HD now or if its just the sheer size of the telly, but I'm finding that the games just look so much better somehow. I mean, it could be a sort of placebo effect, but I played Resistance Fall of Man, which is already an admittedly good looking game, and it just looked fantastic. I also did the same with MGS4 and MGS4 looked fantastic on my old TV but it really shines on my new one.
Now before I continue, I'm going to say this next bit has me talking about Dynasty Warriors 6 (Yes, I'm a DW fan. It's the only game I know where you can demolish an entire army in 5 minutes using just one man) so if you can't stick any talk of the DW series, you might want to skip this bit until I talk about the sound. I've played DW6 on my old telly, and though that some of the animation, although decent, and a definate improvement from earlier games, seemed a little sluggish. On the new one, the animation is much more fluid, probably due to a better refresh rate or something, which has me playing it again and frankly enjoying it just as much if not more so.
Of course, theres also the sound, and that is excellent, much better than my old one. Explosions, gunshots and even just speech seem to sound so much better and clearer.
About the only thing that's anywhere near the problem is both the sheer size of the thing, which is both a blessing and a curse, and how damn difficult it can be to get behind the damned thing to connect the cables.
So yeah a positive post overall about this, but thats not to say I don't have something to rant about, although admittedly a small one, so here goes nothing.
When you see adverts on the telly, there are a lot of things that crop up, be they constipation curing table at breakfast (seriously, why the hell do they put these adverts on at THAT time?!) the latest offers from a supermarket or even the never ending stream of DFS adverts (about the only thing good about that is the fact that Linda Barker isn't on the telly. That and the fact it keeps Heather Mills of the damned thing whining about why everyone hates her) but out of all the daft things to do a telly ad for, why in hell do they ever try to advertise HD televisions? It's even better when on some of the DVD's they try to advertise that HD is the way forward. If you have a normal TV, how in the hell can you tell the difference? It really makes you wonder about what kind of chimps they have in marketing.
Well thats about it for this time. There are other things I could rant about right now like how about someone was so astronomically stupid as to climb up an electric pylon, get himself shocked while hanging from it, and his friend rather than going for help, decided to climb up after him and got himself shocked and that they're both in hospital as a result. Frankly though, I think its pretty self explanitory and not really worth the time. Not to mention that I'm in too good a mood to do so, so if you'll excuse me I have alien scum to blast on Resistance Fall of Man.

The start of....well the usual really
So here's the first post of something I'm hoping will become a sort of habit. While this does share the "VGA" bit from VGA Mayhem, its basically going to be a rant journal of sorts with some game reviews and bits thrown in.
So expect a lot of ranting, a lot of venting frustrations, and hopefully a few laughs.
Seeing as this is the first post, I'll start off with something recent:
Yes, I do now own Super Smash Bros Brawl.
Basically I thought that Melee was a really good game, just with a lot of flaws and a few frustrations, usually being the unlocks. So when SSBB came out, I was hoping that it would be different and well...it is. It just happens to have made some things slightly worse.
For instance, who's bloody idea was it to include the Final Smash item? For some characters (Zero Suit Samus) it's useless for the most part. For others (Yoshi, Luigi) they're damned annoying or (Fox, Ike) they're overpowered to the extreme. Also, who the hell gave Pikachu such an annoying Final Smash? It just makes me cave in it's head even more.
Now about the Unlockable Characters. Growing up with Commodore C64 and an Amiga 500 introduced me to gaming as a kid, and then I ended up on the Sega Mega Drive (or the Genesis depending on which one you got) and I encounter a certain game called "Sonic the Hedgehog". Yes, that same speedy blue hedgehog. Naturally, I loved the game for what it was and liked the character. Fast forwarding to now, the fact that Sonic finally gets to beat ten shades out of Mario (on a Nintendo system of all things, Irony anyone?) is great news. But why in hell do I have to play through the Subspace Emissary, meaning I have to keep going through times where I'm forced to play as the bloody Pokemon Trainer or the ever useless and infinately killable Lucas from a game that has never been outside of Japan. Failing that option, that means you have to complete Classic mode with 10 characters.
Naturally upon learning this, I did what any person who wanted to play as Sonic would do... yes that's right! I stuck the whole thing on Easy and used the 10 most overpowered characters in the game.
But why should I have to go through that for Sonic? Unlocking Snake is much easier, you just play 15 brawls on Shadow Moses and he appears. So naturally 15 one life only rounds with Pikachu with me using Ike to obliterate his yellow arse ensued. I mean, Snake was also a much welcome addition to Brawl, but I just fail to see how a high profile addition such as Snake is much easier than the equally, if not higher profile addition of Sonic takes 30 to 40 times longer.
Still, while I rant about these things, Brawl like its predecessor has me forgiving it for its awesome multiplayer (which also has online now, just need Nintendo to realise now that voice chat is a GOOD thing.) and the fact that I get to continually launch that yellow furball into the sky, just because I hate it.
There we are my first post. Hopefully I'll update once every few days with various stuff but I guess that only time will tell.
